In him you were…buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. —Colossians 2:11-12
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is not something that we should celebrate only on Easter Sunday. The resurrection is something we should rejoice in every day of our lives. Jesus’ miraculous resurrection proved He had authority on this earth. It proved He had authority in the pit of hell. How? By the fact that hell couldn’t hold Him! It proved He had authority, even in the heavens. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the evidence that He is the King of kings and Lord of lords.
Jesus’ resurrection made a way for all of humanity to enter the heavens and have a relationship with God the Father. Jesus said of Himself, “I am the way, the truth, and the life and no one comes to the Father except by me.” Jesus made the way into the heavens through His resurrection from the dead. He led captivity captive and set free those who were in bondage, even those in the bosom of Abraham. The Bible says that Jesus was surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses whom He led out of captivity. Some of those whom He set free had been held since even before the great flood of Noah.
Death had ruled and reigned on the earth long enough. Just as death came into the world through one man, Adam, life came into the world through the one man, Jesus Christ. Jesus was resurrected from the dead and He offers resurrection power and life to all who believe. For as in Adam all men died, so in Jesus Christ all men will be made alive. According to Scripture, Christ died and was raised to life on the third day for your salvation and for mine. On this great and glorious day, resurrection power was released from heaven and made available to the world that God created.
Jesus was called the second Adam. Just as Adam was born of God, Jesus was born of God. He was created in His very image. The first Adam brought sin into the world, and through sin, he introduced death to all humanity. Jesus brought the resurrection life into the world and introduced salvation and the life of God to mankind. In the Garden of Eden, God breathed the breath of His Spirit into the nostrils of Adam and the Word of God says that Adam became a living soul. But on the third day in the tomb of Jesus, God breathed the breath of His Spirit into the body of Christ and Jesus became a life-giving spirit.
Jesus’ resurrection created a roadmap to the throne of God which all men can follow. Sure, other men had been raised from the dead in the history of the world, but no man had ever become a life-giving spirit. He had been the truth and the life, but through His resurrection from the dead He became the way!
The most miraculous event in the history of all time came to pass on the resurrection day of Christ. What a wonderful event! What an astonishing day for mankind! Jesus’ resurrection was and is the most miraculous event that has ever transpired in the heavens, under the earth, and on this planet. Don't just celebrate the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. Celebrate the day that Jesus became a life-giving spirit every single day of your born again life! Scriptural Context Colossians 2:8-15
