“...they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well." —Mark 16:18
As surely as the sun will come up tomorrow and the stars will shine in the night sky, you can rely on God’s wonderful provision of healing. To have a great confidence in divine healing, we must first understand what it is. Many people mistakenly think that in order for God to be involved in healing, it must be instantaneous. Although many times God does work by temporarily suspending the natural laws He has put in place, He certainly isn't limited to doing so.
Just as God ordained the law of seedtime and harvest, He also instituted the law of healing. When God commanded Adam to have dominion and take authority over creation, His charge included Adam’s body. Adam’s body was never designed to be weakened by sickness and disease. It was designed to serve the spirit God created in Adam for eternity. Seeing in advance the possibility of injury, God instituted healing to repair any attack that might come.
Healing is a spiritual substance that should emanate from the spirit of a man, which ought to constantly and consistently renew and restore his mortal body. Although this is a biblical fact, there are times that this law of healing is hindered or even stopped from fulfilling the intended restoration.
That's why Jesus, after reestablishing our righteousness, taught us how to access this vital law of God. He said that as we lay hands on the sick, they will recover. One translation says that the sick “will begin to amend.” That's the divine process God implanted in the spirit of Adam to replenish and restore his flesh. This was never intended to be instantaneous. It was designed to be continuous.
Through the very clear directive given by Jesus, we learn how to plant the seed of healing. We do this through laying hands on one another. If you want biblical results, you have to do things the Bible way. Once you plant the seed by laying hands on the sick, your job is done. God will cause the increase. It might not be overnight, but you can rest assured that the law of healing is working. You can have great confidence in God to raise up the sick once you've planted the seed of healing.
