Matthew 13:7, 22 (KJV); And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them. He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
One thing you must never forget about the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches is that they are always on the increase. Our theme scripture reveals that these thorns ‘sprung up.’
When you settle one need, another will come up. When you solve one problem, another will be lurking around the corner. When you acquire a car, you will want a bigger and flashier one. When you get one house, you will want several others.
What chance does the Word have in such an environment where the curve of desire is perpetually steep and unrelenting?
A thorny heart can never seek the Word for the purposes of the liberties in God it has to offer. It will only seek the Word for the personal problems it can solve.
The first point of dealing with a thorny heart is knowing how to cast your cares to God because he cares (1 Peter 5:7). The second point is to learn contentment because the Bible says that godliness with contentment is much gain (1 Timothy 6:6).
Physical need should never rule your world. The Word of God needs ground free of the choking effect of needs in order for it to bear fruit.

PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this truth. Search my heart Lord and deal with me in ways that only You can. I take my eyes off my needs and set my eyes on You, the source of all things. As I do, the Word in me continues to bear fruit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
