2 Timothy 3:5,7(KJV); Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away… Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
There is a difference between being a student of the Word and a disciple of the Word. A student may know the scriptures, understand their historical context and even know their Hebrew and Greek phonetics and transliterations.
It is not a bad thing to know these things but knowing them is not a guarantee that the person knows God. It might only amount to having lot of information about the Bible and nothing else.
If what one has is only plenty of information about the Bible, our theme scripture says of such a person, that he or she is ever learning but never coming to the knowledge of the truth.
On the other hand, a disciple of the Word is submitted to the Word and allows it to not only teach but to also work by its inherent power through him. When a disciple of the Word studies the scriptures, he is not merely amassing information, the life of the Word manifests through everything he says and does.
To become a disciple of the Word, you must understand that the Word is a person(John 1:14). He is not a collection of 66 books full of fanciful and somewhat entertaining stories.
Students of the Word often get lost in the wonders of the Word and miss His person.
As a person, the Word asks and answers questions, He sees, hears, tastes and communicates feelings and convictions.
So, the next time you open your Bible, you must be conscious of these things: do you see through His eyes; do you hear through His ears; do you listen when He speaks; do you understand how He feels?
This is what leads you into a relationship with the Word. In fact, His person is what makes His words spirit and life (John 6:63).
Exercise yourself in this understanding. Let your Bible study time be more than a superficial duty to tick off a list. Let it be time spent with a person, a friend you get to know more deeply as He takes you through the pages of the blueprint and manual of His personality.
Hallelujah!

PRAYER: Father, I thank You for this knowledge. I am submitted to Your precepts and instructions. I know the Word is the very person of who You are and I study the scriptures in this understanding. As I continue to relate with You, You launch me into deeper insights of Your Person. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
